Reiki (pronounced Ray key) is a Japanese phrase meaning 'universal life energy'. It is the energy that sustains all life.
A Japanese gentleman, Mikao Usui, developed Reiki in the early twentieth century. Reiki was introduced to the western world just after the Second World War.
Reiki is a method of connecting to the universal life energy and using it primarily for self-healing and well being. It can also be used to give treatments to others.
Reiki is for everyone. It can also be given to animals and plants.
Receiving a Reiki treatment is a simple process. The receiver can be lying, sitting or standing. The practitioner will gently lay their hands on the body or hover them slightly above the body. No removal of clothing is necessary.
A session will normally take around 1 hour.
Reiki brings balance and harmony to the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual parts of our being promoting good health. Other benefits include the acceleration of natural healing, relaxation, confidence, balance, harmony and clarity of thought. It enhances other treatments or medications.
Although Reiki compliments medical treatment it is not a substitute for it. If you have a physical, emotional or mental problem you should always seek medical advice. A Reiki practitioner will not diagnose or recommend any form of treatment.
